New album: The Late Carya Amara

July 15, 2011

Earthrid 013 cover smallIt’s been a decade since Carya Amara started Earthrid with the visceral electronic album Vestigial Digital. It was followed by two retrospectives of music dating back as far as 1980, Extinction Frequency and Tales of the Unattractive. Since then there have been collaborative projects (released on Earthrid) and related musical ventures but no solo Carya Amara… but now here at last is The Late Carya Amara.

Anyone (and there were quite a few) who was perplexed by the diverse approaches of previous releases is unlikely to find this one any easier to decode – but the receptive listener, maybe armed with a good pair headphones, will find this to be an immersive (if sometimes chilly) experience. Released in summer in the UK, the album’s snowy themes are definitely unseasonal… but did you really want to wait any longer for The Late Carya Amara?

Download The Late Carya Amara now for free or add the CD-R to your collection.

New track in 60×60 International Mix

May 9, 2011

‘Breakthrough’, a short track by Carya Amara has been selected for inclusion in the Vox Novus 60×60 International Mix for 2011. The organisers write:-

On May 21st the 60×60 International mix will debut in New York with a 60×60 Dance performance at Dance Parade; there will also be a follow up performance at the Galapagos Art Space in July 29th. The 60×60 International mix will also be presented in another 60×60 Dance performance in St Louis on October 2nd. I hope to plan many more performances as well.

Events will no doubt be listed on the Vox Novus site.

A Cumbrian Remixed

May 7, 2011

Cumbriaremixedsite2Cumbria Remixed is a sound project in which various artists “use digital technologies to investigate and remix the soundscape of Cumbria” in North-West England. Carya Amara has just contributed a track, based on mixing up a few brief utterances by Cumbria Remixed organiser and prominent feature of the local soundscape Shaun Blezard.

Listen to Carya Amara’s ‘The Sound Around Me’ at the Cumbria Remixed site along with the work of 21 other contributors.

A faint pulse

January 18, 2011

It’s been many years since the last Carya Amara release but new recordings have been made and there should be news in the near future. In the meantime, related, collaborative projects can be heard as some of the releases on Earthrid.

MP3s of locked grooves

January 18, 2011

clanrip.jpgContinuo’s Weblog has just posted a carefully prepared rip of the locked groove compilation that was released by Clan Analogue in 2001. The tracks on this vinyl release looped endlessly whereas the MP3s are, of course, of finite duration. The compilation didn’t have a clear title as such but is known as 101 Lock Grooves or Calg101 (the catalogue number).

The tracks by Carya Amara are:-

  1. Eternal Recurrence
  2. Synth Seizure
  3. Locks Groove
  4. The Ring Modulator Cycle
